How to delete history from your Web browser?

On September 29, 2012, in Internet, by deletefromblog

A valid question is why you would want to delete history of the web pages that you have visited from your browser.  You may have your own personal reasons, however I can think of a few on top of my head. Here we go:

  • You may be at work and it happens to be a super SLOW day. So you decide to do what any dedicated worker would do, surf the net on the company’s dime.  IMHO there is nothing wrong with this however if the IT boys (or girls) are watching you there may be a problem. This may be a good reason to clear your footprints on the browser.
  • Another reason could be that you have a tendency to browse the web a lot.  As such all the cached pages and cookies are taking up quite a bit a space on your hard drive. As such you may need to delete the history from the browser. This BTW will also speed up your computer.

So today we are going to show you how to delete web history from two browsers:

Mozilla Firefox

For today’s demo, we are focusing on Firefox version 15.0. Here are a few ways to clear the history from your Firefox web browser.

  1. Go ahead and click on Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open up the Clear All History dialog box.  Under Time Range to clear drop down, you can select how far back in time do you want to go. Expand the Details button to select which items to delete from. We are going to select all and then click on Clear Now. This may take a few minutes depending on how many files and data it has to go through, but will certainly take care of business.
  2. Another way to do the same thing is to click on the File Menu go to Tools and then select Clear Recent History. When you do this, it should bring up the same dialog box as before. If you do not see the File Menu, you can invoke it by pressing Alt + F.
  3. Finally if you wanted to get super technical on me and go all out Geeky on me, you can certainly follow your own path of freedom by doing the following: Click on Tools Menu > Options > Privacy and then choose to Clear your recent history in the middle of the page.  Next you can click on OK and this will take care of business.

Here is what the dialog box looks like in Firefox.

Micros0ft Internet Explorer

Let’s move onto Internet Explorer, shall we?  In Internet explorer you can delete your browsing history in a similar manner as we saw before. For our post,  we are using Internet Explorer version 9.0.  Go ahead and do one of the following to make it happen.

  1. You can click on Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open up the Delete Browsing History dialog box
  2. From the File menu select Tools – Delete browsing history. A new dialog box pops open.  Here you can select the different items to delete and then click on Delete.
  3. If he wanted to play Geeky again, this time on Internet explorer, you need to do the following: Tools > Internet options > Delete under the general Tab. You select the items that you want to get rid of on your browser’s history and then select delete.

Here is what the Internet options look like in Internet Explorer.
